While both sources say that it is symbolic of being repressed or limited in some way, this resource says that if you dream of being strangled, you are feeling difficulty in expressing and speaking out and dealing openly with your emotions or inner struggle.
Obstructive sleep apnea. Being the most common type of sleep apnea, this happens when the soft tissue in the back of your throat collapses during sleep and blocks the airway, often resulting in the loud choking or snorting noise.
The symptoms of GERD, such as coughing and choking, tend to worsen when you are lying down or attempting to sleep. The backflow of acid from the stomach into the esophagus can reach as high as your throat and larynx, causing you to experience a coughing or choking sensation. This can cause you to wake up from sleep.
Not to be confused with “choking”, strangulation refers to when pressure is applied from the outside, cutting off airflow and/or blood vessels in the neck, preventing oxygen from reaching the brain. Choking, meanwhile, refers to a blockage inside the throat which makes it hard to breathe.
There are two main types of choking. One is known as a partial airway obstruction or mild choking, and the other is a complete airway obstruction, or severe choking.
When someone is choking with a completely blocked airway, no oxygen can enter the lungs. The brain is extremely sensitive to this lack of oxygen and begins to die within four to six minutes. It is during this time that first aid must take place. Irreversible brain death occurs in as little as 10 minutes.
“Bad dreams are hypothesized to be a form of emotional release, [so] dreaming about your partner cheating is likely related to a deep fear you have,” certified sleep science coach Chris Brantner tells Bustle. “Maybe it’s an actual fear of cheating or maybe it’s some more abstract form of mistrust.”
Dreams about being attacked often relate to feelings of your own vulnerability. While they may be disturbing to experience, attack dreams are often exploring sources of pain or control in order to be released from it. Attack dreams can often represent the way we symbolically attack ourselves.
Choking can be partial, where the airway is partly blocked. This may result in a chest infection, with symptoms such as coughing, wheezing or breathlessness. When the airway is fully blocked, it is an emergency that requires immediate treatment to remove the object that is blocking the airflow.
When laryngospasm occurs, people describe the sensation of choking and are unable to breathe or speak. Sometimes, the episodes occur in the middle of the night. A person may suddenly awaken feeling as though they are suffocating. This condition is called sleep-related laryngospasm.
Snoring, snorting or gasping: Noisy sleep is a warning sign that your upper airway might be obstructed. Not all snorers have apnea, but the two often go hand-in-hand. As snoring gets louder, chances of having sleep apnea are greater and greater.
The most common causes of globus pharyngeus are anxiety and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a form of acid reflux that causes the stomach’s contents to travel back up the food pipe and sometimes into the throat. This can result in muscle spasms that trigger feelings of an object caught in the throat.
Sexual asphyxiation is the act of choking someone for sexual pleasure. It falls under the umbrella of breath play. That’s any sex act that makes it hard for you to breathe.
Strangulation has the effect of cutting off blood flow to the brain by restricting the blood vessels in the neck (blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood to the brain).
If the airway is only partly blocked, the person will usually be able to speak, cry, cough or breathe. They’ll usually be able to clear the blockage themselves. To help with mild choking in an adult: encourage them to keep coughing to try to clear the blockage.
Common Causes of Choking- eating or drinking too quickly.
swallowing food before it has been sufficiently chewed.
swallowing small bones or objects.
inhaling small objects.
Choking is silent
Choking is completely silent and happens when something is completely blocking the airway.
What are some common causes of choking in an adult?- Trying to swallow large pieces of poorly chewed food.
Drinking alcohol before or during meals.
Wearing dentures.
Eating while talking excitedly or laughing, or eating too fast.
Walking, playing or running with food or objects in the mouth.
Victims may lose consciousness by any one or all of the following methods: blocking of the carotid arteries in the neck (depriving the brain of oxygen), blocking of the jugular veins (preventing deoxygenated blood from exiting the brain), and closing off the airway, making breathing impossible.
Hand Signals. If someone doesn’t know the universal sign for choking, whether they’re a child or someone who’s too frantic to remember, they may just look at you with panicked eyes and point to their throat to indicate that something is wrong.
Choking may be a life-threatening medical emergency, because the brain can only survive a few minutes without oxygen. First aid can save the life of a choking person if applied correctly and immediately. Procedures are different for adults and children. Always call triple zero (000) in an emergency.
The types are: 1. Dreaming is Passive Imagination 2. Dream Illusions 3. Dream-Hallucinations.
Dreaming of your spouse leaving you for someone else can be a frightening dream, but it often is your subconscious mind’s way of telling you that there are issues that need to be addressed in your waking life.
If an ex cheated on you in the past, these dreams may indicate that you’re afraid your current partner will do the same. “It is normal to have dreams based on fear and anxiety from negative past experiences that we don’t want to reoccur,” Katie Ziskind, LMFT, a licensed marriage and family therapist, tells Bustle.
If you’re dreaming about someone who you haven’t seen for a long time, it could be a sign that you miss them or have strong feelings about them. This does not necessarily mean this person misses you or has feelings for you-it’s just as likely that they happened to be on your mind when you went to sleep.
